Respect, it’s Fadda Zeeks from Red Star Sound outta Jamaica, Queens, New York! Long time mi deh inna this music ‘ting mi don. I love making mixtapes, you know, the ones that no one seems to take the time to make. Check me out on Friday nights after 12am on MZJA radio. Playing on the radio on that day and time was the best thing for me. Every Friday night, after a long week of work (damn near every week), I like to unwind by playing all types of music, and build ah dancehall vibes. So, now, instead of just playing for my friends, I can play for my new friends on the zone. The music bug bit me way back in the day, when my father had two belt driven Technic turntables and a likkle Gemini mixer. It wasn’t a big set, but I was infatuated with the mystique of selecting a record, putting it on the turntable, and cueing it up with the headphones. I remember scratching on those old belt driven turntables, ‘bwoy, those were the good old days!!! I come from the days of bringing 6-8 milk crates, and nuff sneaker boxes full of 45’s to dances. Later stepping up to the official road gear, 2-double 12” inch crates, about 3 single 12” crates, and about 4-45 boxes, and getting a headache at the thought of moving all that hardware at the end of the dance!
Now, mi have mi own ‘ting. A pair of Pioneer CDJ-800’s, a Denon battle mixer, and Numark Cue virtual dj software, and nuff hard drives! This technology ‘ting mek my life soooooooo much easier, and has undoubtedly saved my back from a hernia!
